The training program aims to help teachers:
1. Understand the theoretical and pedagogical framework of AI Literacy, as it relates to contemporary digital literacy requirements and the context of the international PISA assessment.
2. Become familiar with the key competency areas related to accessing, analyzing, evaluating, creating, and participating in digital media and artificial intelligence environments.
3. Develop skills for critically engaging with digital content so that they can identify the reliability, intentions, biases, and impacts of media and AI tools.
4. Strengthen their ability to evaluate information and sources, with an emphasis on validity, quality, ethics, and the safe use of data.
5. Develop skills for the creative and responsible production of digital content, utilizing media and artificial intelligence tools in a pedagogically appropriate manner.
6. Acquire practical strategies for integrating AI literacy into teaching practice through activities, examples, and applications that meet the needs of the classroom.
7. Be empowered to promote responsible, active, and democratic student participation in digital environments, while respecting the principles of digital citizenship.
8. Recognize the challenges and opportunities of artificial intelligence in education so that they can support students in its safe, ethical, and critical use.
9. Link the above competencies to the goals of assessment and contemporary educational practice, taking into account international trends and PISA data.
Upon completion of the training program, participants will be able to:
• Describe and interpret the basic concepts and dimensions of the Media + AI Literacy framework within the context of the international PISA study.
• Identify and analyze the key competency areas related to accessing, analyzing, evaluating, creating, and participating in digital media and artificial intelligence environments.
• Evaluate the reliability, validity, and intent of digital sources, media content, and results generated by artificial intelligence tools.
• Apply strategies for critically examining information, recognizing phenomena such as misinformation, algorithmic influence, and bias in digital environments.
• Utilize educational digital resources and artificial intelligence tools to support the learning process and foster students’ critical thinking skills.
• Plan and organize teaching activities and learning scenarios that incorporate the principles of Media + AI Literacy into the classroom.
• Develop PISA-style educational activities, using data, examples, and question formats from the assessment to support teaching.
• Document and present lesson plans or educational interventions that promote the critical, responsible, and creative use of digital media and artificial intelligence.
The Training Program is organized into modules, with a total training duration of 48 hours. The modules that make up the program are as follows:
1. PISA [Programme for International Student Assessment]
2. Literacy [in AI]: Concepts and Theoretical Framework
3. Literacy [in AI]: The Assessment Framework
4. Literacy [in AI]: Research Materials, Data, and Results from the PISA Study
5. Educational/Instructional Applications of the PISA Study
6. Utilization of PISA Research Findings
7. Public Understanding and Communication of PISA Research
8. Final Project—Submission of a Lesson Plan and Development of PISA-Style Questions
This professional development program is intended for secondary education teachers in the following subject areas: PE02, PE03, PE04, PE05, PE06, PE07, PE10, PE13, PE78, PE86
Participants who complete the entire Training Program (both synchronous and asynchronous formats) are required to complete all self-assessment exercises, as well as the final project. Participants who complete the Training Program in full will receive a Certificate of Successful Completion from the Center for Lifelong Learning (KEDIVIM) of the University of Ioannina, which will specify the duration of the program and the number of ECTS credits.
Please note that in order to progress from one module to the next, full-time participants must achieve a 75% passing score on the Self-Assessment Exercise. To successfully complete the Training Program, the final project must receive a positive evaluation.
Stavros Aivaliotis
Stavros Aivaliotis is a researcher who completed his undergraduate and graduate studies in the Department of Primary Education at the School of Educational Sciences of the University of Ioannina, specializing in the teaching of science. His research interests include data analysis, large-scale assessments, the use of artificial intelligence in education, research methodology, and issues related to educational policy.
Theodoros Zeugitis
Dr. Theodoros Zeugitis is an information technology educator at the Messinia Secondary Education Directorate, where he serves as principal of the Messinia Vocational High School (EPAL). He is a graduate of the Department of Informatics at the Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki, holds a master’s degree in Adult Education from the Hellenic Open University and a Ph.D. in European policies on school education from the University of Ioannina. She has extensive experience in designing and coordinating European programs, having actively participated in them since 2005. At the same time, he has participated in numerous cultural and environmental programs in secondary education, and since 2020 he has been involved in robotics and STEAM. His research interests include data analysis, evaluation, and European programs. His work has been published in prestigious international scientific journals and presented at conferences.
Panagiotis Tsiotakis
Panagiotis Tsiotakis is a member of the teaching staff in the Department of Social and Educational Policy at the University of the Peloponnese and a member of the Academic Staff at the Hellenic Open University. He holds a Ph.D. in Educational Sciences and has completed undergraduate and graduate studies in Computer Science. His professional experience includes various educational roles as a computer science teacher in secondary education and as a research associate and faculty member in higher education.
